What’s going on with me. December 30, 2006
First off let me tell you about our kitchen remodel. We’ve been working on our kitchen FOREVER!! We first tried to improve our kitchen by paining it a lovely shade of lipstick pink. Yuck! We were going for more of a deep red. Boy did we goof up. Our kitchen stayed dark pink for 3 years before we got the motivation to fix it. Our kitchen has wainscoting on the wall. The lower half is painted a tan color and the upper part is blue. It looks MUCH better. Dan has been in the process of stripping the cabinets for months now. Not that the job is that huge, but it’s not fun. At the end of the day, the last thing we want to do is work on the house. So Dan worked on it a little at a time. But he finally finished stripping the cabinets this week. Sure they look bad, but that’s what we expected. At least all the old paint is off. Next we’re going to sand them, then I get the job of painting them. We selected a lovely light cream color. We also got new handles and hinges for the cabinets. That was a challenge in itself! Since our cabinets are so old, when we got to Home Depot to look for new handles, we discovered that none of the handles were the same size as ours! All the new handles are longer than the ones we have. We really didn’t want to have to patch the holes on our doors and re drill. Ugh!! But after much searching, Dan found some handles that fit our doors. They wouldn’t have been my first choice, but at least they’re silver and look much better than what we currently have! So in the very near future our cabinets will finally be done. The last two things we need to do in the kitchen are put in a tile back splash and put down a new wood floor.
In other news I got some money for Christmas from Dan’s grandfather. He always tells us that we should spend our Christmas money on something fun for ourselves. I’ve never been very good at that. But this year I took that advice to heart. I don’t often splurge on myself. I use to be in love with shoes and purses. When I got married and had children I just couldn’t bring myself to waste money on so many shoes and purses. With my Christmas money this year, the first thing I did was go out and buy some new shoes! I’ve needed some new Church shoes for a while now. But I had an older casual pair that I’ve been wearing. So it wasn’t urgent. But I got myself some new black church shoes that are much more fancy than my ultra casual ones I had before. And I got myself some black, knee high boots. I haven’t been a trend follower in so long. But I jumped on board this trend. They’re so cool!
Then yesterday I took myself to a fancy salon and got my hair highlighted and cut. I’ve never had my hair highlighted before and it looks great! And boy was it expensive. But I’m glad I had the extra money to have fun with.
Christmas break is almost done. We’ve all been so sick the past week or two. It’s been awful around here. Like a germ factory. I hope the kids are better in time for school next week.
That’s all.
