5K day!

Our day started bright and early at 5:45 a.m. I guess I should say dark and early since the sun had not risen yet. I considered going back to sleep. I was very tired. But we all got up. Dan decided that he and the kids would come with me to the start of my 5K instead of meeting me there later. I’m glad they all came along. The kids were in good spirits for being awakened at 6 in the morning. I was surprisingly not nervous. Just really exciting and a bit anxious to get the race started. My friend Rachelle, from church, was also running the 5K. And two other friends from church, Shanna and Jana, were walking the 5K. Rachelle and I were pretty close to the front of the pack before the race started. It was kind of intimidating to be around all those professional runners. But I didn’t mind them too much. I was there to do my own thing. I was just going to do my best. When the race started I was able to run for 6 minutes solid before I needed to take a walking break. This in and of itself is an accomplishment. That’s the longest stretch that I’ve ever run! Go me. It was easier to push myself in the beginning because I was in this large pack of woman. I believe there were more than 1500 woman there! I didn’t want to be the first one to start walking! So when I saw some woman a head of me had stopped to walk, I gave myself permission to walk as well. Silly, I know. What happened to playing my own game??!! :-) I did pretty well. I ran a lot and walked some too. I got pretty tired. But I crossed the finish line running with my family there to cheer me on. My official race time was 37 minutes 18 seconds. You can see the race results here.

Here I am running across the finish line. Good thing I was RUNNING across the finish line because Dan told me that if I wasn’t running at the finish then I better just keep on walking home! That’s my supportive husband! Hee hee. So that’s about it. It was fun and I’m really proud that I was able to run the race.

Congratulations Carolyn! Isn’t it great to have cheering fans there as you cross the finish line? Back when I was a runner, I ran a couple of 3 milers and a 5 miler. Runing with a big crowd was amazingly energizing. I had to tell myself to “slow down” at the begining so I didn’t burn myself out. Run your own race.
