If you’ve been to the Blackwelder’s, you’ve probably been offered a taste of Bro. Blackwelder’s Kale Smoothie. The first time I tried it, I thought it was pretty yucky. The second time I tried it, I was still unimpressed! You might be wondering why I keep going back for more! Obviously you don’t know Bro. Blackwelder. :-) Today the Kale Smoothie was offered to me yet again. I’ll admit I was very reluctant. But I gave it another go. Lo and behold it was very tasty! The new secret ingrident?? Bananas! The bananas saved the day. I’m not entirely certain of the origninal Kale recipe, but I know it had kale, orange juice and possibly apple juice. It just tasted too green. Kind of made me sick to my stomach. But the new kale recipe had kale, orange juice and banana and it was truly enjoyable. No fooling. Not just tolerable, but actually good. Which I’m happy about, not just because I want to be polite, but because kale is so good for you. And I’m always looking for ways to get more dark green vegetables into my diet. Well this one sure hits the mark. Turn kale into a sweet drink and boom you’ve got me! So thank you Bro. Blackwelder for experimenting on me. And if any of you get offered the famous Kale Smoothie next time you’re over at the Blackwelder’s house, just be sure to ask if it’s got bananas. :-)

On a side note, Google never ceases to amaze me. I did an image search for kale smoothies and there were lots of pictures!! Who would have thunk??

one time in midwifery class we had signs stuck on us with various complaints of early pregnancy. the teacher put on the one girl/woman who always brought green funky liquids to class: diarrhea. specifically because of the drinks.

Thanks for the smiles Carolyn–I do know Brother Blackwelder, and I remember his “suggestions.” :-) I’ve always associated him with pizza and fruit salad though….

Maybe bananas can turn the tide from my “I could drink it if I HAD to” comment to a “Yum, thank you!”
