Happy 10th Anniversary! June 6, 2008
Today is my and Dan’s 10th anniversary. 10 years! Can you believe we’ve come this far?? It has gone by so fast. Time to steal posts from Kerry and Braden! I remember a few months back they did some sort of anniversary post, even though it wasn’t their anniversary at the time. Since I’m lacking in creativity, I’ll just steal some of the questions from that post. This is a long one…I hope I don’t lose anyone!
What are their names: Dan and Carolyn.
How did you two meet? We met carpooling to a singles church dance. Dan spotted me and my friend and thought we looked closer to his age than any other folks that were there. Later he told me he thought I looked cute and wanted to ride in my car.
How long did you date? I believe we dated about 6 months before Dan proposed. Then we were engaged another 3 months before we were married. Is that right Dan?
Who is older? Dan is, by a year and a month.
Who said I love you first: Dan did. I remember he said it while we were dating. I responded with, “I’m glad.” Which I was!
Much later I told Dan that at the time I was unsure if what I was feeling was love. Since I had never been in love up until then. I wanted to be sure it was love before I went and said it.
Who is taller: Dan. He’s 5′11″ and I’m 5′ 4″ A very nice difference in height.
Who sings better: Umm, I think we honestly both sing about the same, but I think Dan has much more musical talent than I have.
Who has the worst temper: I would have to say me. Dan is much more even tempered, calm, and able to handle stress.
Who does the laundry: Me. Lots and lots of it too. In fact I’ll probably be washing at least three loads on this fine anniversary.
Who does the dishes: Thankfully both of us do the dishes. I would have to say that I do dishes slightly more often since I’m at home more. But Dan unloads and loads the dish washer a lot too. Thanks baby!
Who does the yard work? Dan does all the lawn mowing and weed wacking. I do the weed pulling and gardening.
Who changes more diapers? Me. Probably because I’m home all day.
Who sleeps on the left/right side of the bed? If your standing at the foot of the bed looking at it, I sleep on the left and Dan sleeps on the right. When we first got married Dan said he wanted to sleep on the right side and I didn’t care either way. And so that is how it has always been. If we ever lay in bed the opposite way it just feels weird!
Who eats more? I guess Dan. But don’t mess with me when I’m pregnant baby. I’ll eat you under the table.
Who pays the bills? I pay most of the regularly occurring bills. I bet you are glad to know that, aren’t you? Dan keeps the bulk of our finances running like a well oiled machine.
Who cooks dinner? Me. But I remember way back in our early marriage when I was a nanny and Dan was still in school, he would cook dinner for us. I’d come home from work to a piping hot meal. Those were the days!
Who drives when we go out together? I drive, and I always have. I think it started out this way because when we were dating, Dan didn’t have a car for a while so Shanna or I would have to drive him around. Then after we got married, we used my parents car for a while, therefore, I drove. Even after we got our own first car, I was already the default driver. I liked to drive us. And Dan is great at navigating. Now when we all go out as a family, we’re driving the van, which is “my” car so I drive. This one family at church actually asked us one time if Dan had his driver’s license. They thought it was really odd that the man wasn’t driving! When Dan and I go out on dates, we take the little car and Dan always drives us.
Who is more stubborn? I’d have to say neither of us is very stubborn. But if I have to give an answer, I’ll say me. Dan and I hate to fight and when we do, we resolve it pretty quickly.
Who is the first to admit they are wrong? Again, I’m going to have to say it’s about equal. Though when we have a disagreement, I’m usually the one who wants to talk about it and fix the situation first. While Dan sometimes needs more time to cool off before we discuss it.
Whose parents do you see most often? We used to see my family pretty regularly when they lived in state. Now that they don’t we don’t ever see them. They’re just too far away. We never see my dad in Georgia and we rarely see Dan’s dad in Virginia. I’d have to say we see the Groesbecks the most and even them we don’t see too often. It sucks to have all our family living so far away.
Who kissed who first? Dan was my first kiss. I told him when we were dating that I had never kissed anyone before. I told him that I was nervous about the whole thing and so he might have to wait around awhile for me to be ready. We had our first kiss at a church Halloween dance. It was perfect, under the stars. I was dressed as a princess and Dan was dressed as Fonzie. AAAAAAAAA!
Who asked who out? Dan and I were friends with the before mentioned Shanna. We all hung out for weeks before Dan and I paired off. It all happened rather gradually. We never really started dating, we had just always been friends.
Who proposed? Of course Dan did. I didn’t see it coming at all. I could tell he was really nervous and I figured out what he was trying to do before he even asked. But he was so cute and sweet!
Who is more sensitive? Me me me a thousand times me. Don’t make a pregnant lady cry.
Who has more friends? Umm, don’t know. I have more friends these days than I used to, thanks to book club. But Dan is quite the socialite. Seriously, Dan has acquired some major social skills. He is always telling funny stories and seems to have friends all around. He’s much more comfortable talking to strangers than I am. Dan is one cool dude.
Who wears the pants in the family? Me. Because Dan always wears shorts! Actually sometimes when referring to me he calls me “The Boss.” He means it unaffectionately. Dan and I are a great team. Neither of us is in charge. Dan has more knowledge in some areas and I have more knowledge in others. We work together really well and we’re best friends.
I love you Dan. I couldn’t have hand picked a better husband. Happy anniversary.
