Hurricane Ike
We’re getting our own taste of Hurricane Ike here in Cincinnati. I didn’t check the weather this morning, so I didn’t really know anything was going on. Dan left for church for early meetings like he always does. As the rest of us were getting ready for church I noticed that it was getting really windy outside. I didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t too windy. Yet.
Then during the second hour of church the power went out. We all continued to sit through our meetings in the dark, hot church, until finally someone from the bishopric came and said that the rest of church had be canceled.
We gathered up our family and headed out. And boy were we in for a surprise. In our 2 hours inside the church building, things sure changed outside. There were trees down everywhere and debris all over. It was very windy to say the least. We were very lucky to come home and find we still had power. It had gone out once before we got home. And it went out briefly again since we’ve been home. But so far, we’re still with power. We’ve got a lot of large trees in our back yard, but thankfully none of them are near our house. There’s a large tree in our neighbor’s front yard. One of the limbs came down right on their front steps. We’ve been very lucky so far.
Here’s a video clip of what it looks like in our back yard. You can hear the wind whipping!
Here’s some pictures of the tree in our neighbor’s front yard. It’s actually very near the property line and so this tree could easily damage our house. It’s a huge tree. One limb fell in our yard and another fell on their steps. This is the limb in our yard as seen from our front porch.
Oh the irony! Just as I was about to click “Publish Post” the power went out. It was out for about 2 hours. So you know, not bad. We’re all happy the power is back on and the wind has finally died down some. Thanks for tuning in. Keep reading for more Miller fun!
