Some pre-flight checks:
So I checked and I'm actually only 7 techs from Mass Media and the UN!!?? Paper, Printing Press, Sci. Method, Physics, Radio, Mass Media. Granted those are all expensive techs, but still. That would mean 99 turns from now. I wonder though if it would be faster to make a few detours and get some other good techs. Not to mention wonders, which also increase score. A few techs I could handle:
1220 - Start the Golden Age. Income jumps from +15 to +43 and time to divine right drops from 6 to 4. Figure out what tech I need for galleons. It's Astronomy, which I have. Upgrade one of my galleys for 115 gp. 1240 - Taoism spreads in Ravenna and Judaism spreads in Arretium. It's nothing but superstitions, of course. 1250 - Hinduism spreading too. 1260 - Chichen Itza built in Mauryan. And Islam is founded in Cumae - had a picture for that but it must have gotten eaten... It's just superstition too, for now... Mauryan, since it already has some great prophet points from Chichen, starts on Spiral Minaret, due in 12. Switch Cumae over to an Islamic Monastery. Islam spreads to Rome. And I complete the circumnavigation of the globe. 1270 - Load my free Islamic Missionary into a galleon to sail to Berlin - he arrives and spreads Islam in 1300. I revolt to Bureaucracy. I try to convert to Islam at the same time but it wouldn't let me, so I do that in 1310. Islam spreads in Neapolis. 1340 - For Drama, Bismarck converts (and gives me 70 gold) 1350 - Nationalism->Constitution 1400 - Not so hot for the brothers of the faith. Bismarck converts back to Judaism and my missionary fails to spread Islam in Teotihuacan. 1430 - Paper->Printing Press 1460 - Printing->Education 1480 - Great Merchant born in Cumae - I send him towards Madrid. Education->Philosophy. I'm sick of waiting for Mao to want to trade with me. 1505 - Philosophy->Liberalism. Revolt to Pacifism. My 3 missionaries land in Germany and start a-convertin'. Hamburg, Essen and Munich (and Berlin) now have Islam. Music gets Bismarck to convert again, along with World Map and 50 gold.
Not bad for something that was the last one to be discovered - only about 250 years ago or so. 1520 - Liberalism->Democracy (it was the most expensive tech)->Sci. Method. 1535 - Sci Method->Physics. Since I control an entire continent, I'm not surprised to find 3 things of oil. 1545 - Taj Mahal->Golden Age! Pick up Engineering from my bud Bismarck for Divine Right. Harkuf the Great Merchant arrives in Spanish land. Starts making his way to Madrid. 1550 - Harkuf brings back 1300 gold! I turn up science to 100% for awhile, at -63 gpt. 1555 - Physics->Electricity. Isaac Newton born in Rome because I'm (duh) first to Physics. Rene Descartes, not to be outdone, born in Athens. |
