Okay - it's Deity. I think I may have started a few games on Deity, but I certainly haven't won one, and I haven't really played Civ that much lately. Still, we'll give it a try. If anything, maybe it will be a quick end :-).

Sirian has given us the option of a saved game at the start or one with 12 turns of him playing for it. It's a no-brainer for me - I'll take the help!

I'm also going to try something new and that's not writing the report as I go. We'll see how that works for me. As Rome, if I can get Praetorians, that will be a decent defense for awhile. I'll also have to try and (once again) vow to myself to build military! Though on Deity, I guess if I don't, I'll be shortly dead.

I look at what I have from the save, and it's basically Rome founded, 2 warriors and archery on the way - no surprises.

I apologize again for the lack of screenshots here. I thought I was taking some, but it turns out it wasn't taking anything. There are some screenshots, but not for awhile...Also, the report is a bit sparse for most of the game, because I was counting on my screenshots to refresh my memory about what happened.

I explore a bit with my initial warrior, but don't find much exciting. In 3430, I see the first barb warrior. I hearken back to Sirian's advice to not go too far with my scouting warrior, so I hightail it back. In 3370, the first barb warrior attacks Rome, and I only have one warrior on duty (the other one is a turn away from making it back). I get really paranoid that I'm going to end my game right here! But I survive.

Tech path goes to archery next, and I notice that Sirian has queued up Bronze Working. I figure he knows what he's doing, so I leave it on. BW finishes in 2830, and I decide to take Iron Working to see if there's any closer iron. I also adopt Slavery, which I will use a TON over the next millenia. I have copper off to the west. Militarily, I am holding my own. Floods of barbarian warriors and later archers come to Rome, but they all go away defeated. In 3100, I notice that Sirian has left us with emphasize food on. Makes sense - we want to get up to the happy cap as soon as possible.

In 2590, I notice that I've only had Hinduism founded, and I begin to wonder if we're on a duel map with only one other civ. I check the game start page, and nothing seems to rule that out - in fact, Sirian was intentionally vague about the map details. On cue, the very next turn Judaism is founded :-). Going back through the logs, Buddhism was founded in 3700 and I must have just missed it. I check F9 and there are 5 cities there, so I assume at least 5 civs.

By now, I'm feeling like I'm holding my own militarily. I have a barracks up and a worker, and I get the stroke of luck in 1720 that I pop Animal Husbandry to work the pigs! I'm building a settler to found a 2nd city, and Antium is founded in 1480 BC to the east next to the copper. I wonder if that's a bit late - even with all the barbs, I think I could have gotten away with another city a little earlier. Not TOO much earlier of course...
