I did quite a bit of test playing of this game. Someone over at CivFanatics mocked up a game identical to this as far as the start goes, and I test-played a few strategies, aiming for the Civil Service slingshot. If you're not familiar with this, what it involves is beelining to Code of Laws, timing it up with the build of the Oracle, which allows you to take Civil Service with the Oracle, which is a more expensive tech than you might normally be able to get.

Despite what the crazy AI blue circle suggests, it seemed obvious to build 1W of the start tile. I really can't see what could make up for missing both fish and gold!?! Gold is a huge resource early on, especially to a civ that already starts with mining, like mine is. And since the limiting factor of the CS slingshot is the research time for Code of Laws (especially given that I am industrious), I want to get the 7 commerce tile in play sooner rather than later.

The fish and pigs are the big food tiles, so the various strategies I came up with involved researching fishing and animal husbandry, and building a worker and workboat. I tried it a couple of different ways, trying to see which was the fastest. The strategy I ended up with was... well why don't you just watch and see!
