Sponsor: Sirian Opening Date: Monday, July 3 Duration: Four Weeks Difficulty: Prince Civilization: Spain Leader: Isabella Map Size: Standard Map Script: Fractal Rules: Standard Victory: Any Variant Rules: * You may train Workers -ONLY- at cities that are currently size 6 (SIX) or larger! * You must retain control over your initial seven cities. You may not give any of them away by any means. If any should be captured, you must bend your all to recapture. If any should be razed, you lose the event. Scenario: You inherit a struggling Spanish Empire, starting in 1AD.
You control seven cities. Spain rules over more territory than any other nation.
However, none of your cities has yet reached the critical Size 6 (SIX) threshold. This means your empire begins with zero workers and no improved plots!
The worst news of all may be that your economy has become mired in stagnation:
Thus begins Adventure 9 over at Realms Beyond. When it first was announced, it seemed like a pretty good time. Especially given my massive financial hemmorhaging over in Epic 5, it looked like fun. Even given the start, it didn't seem like it would be TOO challenging. Yes, none of our cities have reached size 6, but 4 of them are at size 5, so it shouldn't be too long before we can start training workers. My plan was to get my cities up to size 6 ASAP (duh). After that, a few of them would start improving the big cities, while a few other ones would continue on worker duty until I had enough. So, the first thought was to go through and look at the cities. My first moves of action were to MM Barcelona, Seville and Cordoba to max food. Here's an example of what I did at Seville
The builds all looked good, except that I put Madrid and Toledo both on granaries. Isabella is expansive, so they're half-price, and I definitely need to be emphasizing growth. After going through all the cities, I decide to raise research to 40%, at a small deficit. There's no beakers invested in Monotheism, so I switch over to Math. That will put me on the track to Currency and Calendar, which will be very good techs. Since the most crucial thing will be to hook up the resources, I take a look at what I have. There are 2 rice, cows when Salamanca expands (it's building an obelisk), 2 pigs, 2 horses, sugar, gold and corn. I need happy cities, so gold will be a big priority. It needs a mine and 4 roads to connect it to the empire. Relations-wise, everyone is happy with me, although there are 3 jews and Hatty the Buddhist. I'll definitely need to keep an eye on possibly working her over down the road. So with all that out of the way, I press enter on my first turn. |
