First of all - sorry for the crappy pictures. I eventually figured out
how to take better pictures but you're out of luck for this replay.
4000 BC - Okay then. I never finished any of the Civ3 epics, though I started a few of them. Finished downloading 1.09, and I load up the save and behold I can actually see the food / hammer / gold values on the tiles!! So I got that goin for me, which is nice. I think I see water in the fog to the north, but I can't see for sure. But then I remember I have a warrior I can use :) It's the ocean. Decide to found on the ocean, because settling on a hill plains gets an extra hammer in the city square. I’ll still get the stone and cow in my original 21, but I’ll also get wheat. Lose the “France on a lake” but that’s okay. Maybe my 2nd city can go down there.
3960 – Oddly enough, the computer didn’t think that spot was a good spot 40 years ago, but now it does.
Maybe it’s the “Israelite in the wilderness” phenomenon. After 40 years of wandering in the desert, just about anywhere looks good to settle :-D Paris founded and starts on a warrior. Ah I also have a silk – didn’t see that. I decided to move to settle just to be different, but now it’s looking like those crazy Epic designers intended that! Okay anyways I have The wheel and agriculture. One thing I’ve wanted to do is a cultural victory. I just don’t have the patience to do lots of micromanaging so I’m going to go for maybe 6-8 cities. 3960-3800 – I figure I shouldn’t be in too much trouble so I send my only warrior out scouting. I keep him close till the warrior has 4 turns left – I don’t think anybody can get to me by the time my new warrior is built. Abe finds pigs, bananas and rice to the east.
KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! Wow he’s close to the east. That could be trouble. Also see dyes and sugar. 3640 Warrior-Warrior. I’m going to build a worker at size 2. I send Bert doing some short-term western scouting. I see now that it’s Karakorum and on the southeastern edge of our continent.
3520 – Scout from Montezuma spotted over in the northeast. This could be cramped… Mysticism ->Poly. I’m going for Hinduism. I already have Agriculture, so even if my worker finishes before I can get another worker tech, I can build the farm (and roads due to the wheel) 3480– Buddhism founded. Hmm I hope I get Hinduism! I wonder if Monty’s scout can take an undefended Paris, so Abe starts heading back, but the scout moves away. Bert finds a hut with maps in the west – another pigs and rice. Warrior due in 3, so Bert continues scouting the west. 3420 – Abe kills a lion and Bert kills a panther. Warrior->Stonehenge – need 2 turns to grow to 2. This warrior fortifies in Paris. 3320 – Abe kills another panther. 3280 – Paris: Stonehenge->Worker (15 turns) 3160:
Hut gives Abe fishing. We’ve finished scouting this part of the continent. 3080 – With Abe and Bert heading back to Paris, start Charlie exploring where Monty came from. 2880 – We find Alex – he also came from the east. This is a panagea, so I guess that makes sense. 2800 -
Polytheism ->Masonry. Decide to wait 3 turns to convert to Hinduism to let my worker complete. 2680 – Worker completes and he goes to the farm. Next will be the quarry to hurry up Stonehenge. Decide to start up a barracks first, since every turn I am constructing Stonehenge without stone means wasted hammers. Convert to Hinduism. 2440 - Meet Washington in the east. 2360 – Gandhi in the east – he’s the one that formed Buddhism. 2320 – Farm built, Paris makes +4 food a turn now. Worker heads to the quarry. I totally planned this – the worker will get to the quarry just in time for me to know what to do with those rocks.
2200 – Masonry->Animal Husb. 2120 – Paris grows to 3. Barracks now in 7, which, in another feat of French planning!! is also the time the quarry will be done (letting me start back up on Stonehenge) 1975 – I’m the least advanced civ in the world 1775 – Paris grows in one and with the quarry now hooked up, Stonehenge in 7. 1750 – Animal Husb.->Writing. Going for alphabet to do some tech trading. Worker goes to build a pasture on the cows. I may want a settler here after Stonehenge. Either that or a monastery for some missionaries. And actually I decide to go for Monotheism to be able to switched to Organized Religion. Not really doing it to found Judaism but if I do then hey bonus. 1625 - Stonehenge->Settler. Cow is hooked up so settler in 10.
1600 – I think this is where I’m going to put that first city. It’s aggressive, but it would seal off my borders. Genghis has room to expand to the north / east, so it shouldn’t mean war immediately. And when it does, I can honorably “clean up” some of my 1st – 2nd ring :-) The only bad thing about the dye and banana combo is that they both need Calendar, which will obsolete my Stonehenge. Still, maybe I can get a city or 3 down beforehand. Worker starts building a road to the wheat, then he’ll move to the piggies. You’ll also see that I’m currently winning in score. Start heading Abe down to city 2. 1450 – Alex adopts Slavery which means he has Bronze, something I’m down 2 techs from (Mining). 1425 – and now Gandhi has Bronze and Slavery. Charlie beats a lion and can promote to Woods 2. 1375 – I can build the Pyramids hmm. I decide to build another warrior. 1350 – Washington and Genghis both get Slavery. 1275 – Orleans founded and starts on barracks. I do have a gap in my cultural borders but that should heal up in 5 turns when my free obelisk causes an expansion (Ed: Upon further review, I'm creative so my cities will expand anyways) 1250 – Ooh weed as I can’t build a pasture on my pig as it has jungle and I need Iron Working to clear it. 1200 – Judaism founded in Orleans. Start the switch to Organized Religion. Mono->Writing
1150 – Switch Orleans to a Jewish missionary. 1100 – Charlie is trapped!!
920 – Just hanging out – I really need BW or IW. I’ve chosen to go the trading method. Wow I just saw that Alphabet will require 73 turns at my current pace… May need to rethink that
Grrr…. That’s going to really hamper relations. (Ed - again, sorry for the crappy pictures - what that says is Genghis Khan converts to Buddhism) 820 -
Pyramids->Settler. Swap to Representation. 780 – I’m the most cultured civ woot. 720 – Monty converts to Judaism!?!? Umm okay I guess that’s cool. 640 – Well writing comes in, I’m going with Alphabet at 57! Turns – hopefully that will come down a bit. |
